San Bruno Gas Explosion: preventble?

Senior engineer from PG&E repeatedly told supervisors there were gaps in the record keeping in that area. That the potential for danger was present.
Currently blamed on a 'bad weld' seam, there are 200 such known potential seams in the PG&E system. 'Over the next two years' (!) they will test and/or replace these sections. That's pretty underwhelming. The trial is up in October I think. Stay tuned.

(1) Makes you mad large companies are not rigorous enough to fully protect the public.
(2) Makes you think failure in the old mega power systems are unavoidable (when are they put out to pasture/deemed obsolete?).
(3) Makes decentralized, local home power like renewable solar and wind seem ever more attractive.
