"... the southwestern United States has a greater than 80 percent chance of at least a 10-year drought within the next century. Some areas, including Southern California, have a probability of more than 90 percent.

The study also finds a 20 to 50 percent chance of a megadrought lasting more than 35 years. The risk of a 50-year megadrought is 5 to 10 percent."
