Except we have the Bill of Rights and First Amendment, one of the fundamental achievements of a free democracy,

"The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances."

Put into use poorly, as per Ted Nugent in article, and occasionally with higher-minded aims,

"Code Pink describes itself as 'a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end US funded wars and occupations, to challenge militarism globally, and to redirect our resources into health care, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities.'"
