Carol Smaldino: Shifting Our Notions of Nature: Musings on Natural and Manmade Disasters
Natural and manmade: these are interesting aspects of disaster, and one's we have to consider in our efforts to progress and evolve as humanity.
How much can we invade natural processes and expect our host planet to remain supportive, and allow our incusrions?
Suffering Deepwater Horizon oil catastrophes and Fukushima Nuclear catastrophes help us see how increasingly precarious our tenancy on the face of the Earth is; and perhaps reconsider how smartly we should inhabit the planet, using concepts like sustainability, humility, and smart balance (homeostastis, ecosystem perpetuation, avoiding negative crop cycles, avoiding nuclear mutation and/or annihilation) as guideposts and warning signs that we'll need to inhabit the planet earnestly more consciously and smartly.
